Summer heat is on its way, luckily here in Schoharie County there are plenty of ways to stay cool whether it involves swimming, kayaking or canoeing!

  • The Village of Schoharie has its very own community swimming pool. Check out their Facebook page  for information on hours and swimming courses once they’ve opened for the season.

  • Just north of Max V. Shaul State Park in southern Schoharie County there is swimming access along a deep pool in the Schoharie Creek: http://www.swimmingholes.org/ny.html#MAX SHAUL AREA

  • Mine Kill State Park, also in southern Schoharie County features an Olympic-sized swimming pool. Admission is $2 for adults and $1 for children. Open from 10am-6pm daily during the summer. http://blog.cdphp.com/health-living/low-or-no-cost-summer-swimming/

  • Also at Mine Kill, a launch gives kayakers and canoers access to the Blenheim-Gilboa Reservoir.

  • The Schoharie Creek has many launch points for canoes and kayaks, two of the best include: just off NY Route 30A a mile north of Central Bridge across from Cripplebush Road junction and along the Route 7 Bridge in Central Bridge.

  • The Schoharie Reservoir has numerous boat launches as well. You can find a map here but make sure to get a permit first by following this link to the Department of Environmental Protection permit application.
