Schoharie, NY – Apr. 8, 2013.  April is National Volunteer Month and Schoharie Area Long Term (SALT) is pleased to announce that over seventy volunteers are expected to attend a Volunteer Recognition Ceremony on Tuesday, April 9, 2013 at 5pm at the Depot Lane Theater in Schoharie. Members of the media are invited.

Local leaders will be joining SALT and Schoharie Recovery, Inc. staff to formally acknowledge and show appreciation for the many hardworking and dedicated individuals who have volunteered for the relief and recovery efforts following the devastation caused by Hurricane Irene and Tropical Storm Lee in 2011.

The event will also highlight the impact of national service and thank individuals serving in AmeriCorps programs in our region.  Over 400 mayors nationally will be participating in the Corporation for National and Community Service’s first ever Mayors Day of Recognition for National Service, also on April 9, 2013.

SALT is a regional coalition and coordinating council that seeks to provide interfaith and inter-agency resources, advocacy, healing, and support as well as direct recovery assistance to those affected by flood and storm damage from the 2011 disaster.
