SALT Spotlight: Jeff Olson

Jeff Olson has been a lecturer for SUNY for more than 19 years, and a Principal Consultant at Alta Planning and Designs for more than 13 years. Jeff has been supervising his students, who are helping SALT with our Trail Feasibility Study! He and his students have helped to run our recent successful community meetings in Schoharie and Middleburgh on 2/22 and 2/23.

Jeff teaches America’s first university course in bicycle and pedestrian planning, and is Co-Director of the UAlbany Initiative for Healthy Infrastructure, which creates model plans connecting public works with public health. He is a frequent inspirational speaker at conferences, public meetings and other events. He’s been involved in greenways, open space, active living, and alternative mobility projects for more than 25 years. He has had a diverse career with national, international, and local experience in the public, private, and non-profit sectors. This experience was recognized in 2014 by the Association for Pedestrian and Bicycle Professionals with a Lifetime Achievement Award. His unique vision and leadership ability are important assets to projects ranging from regional planning to site-specific projects and programs. “The Third Mode to a Green Society” discusses the method of thinking and problem solving that is required to integrate bicycle and pedestrian planning into our built environment.  The book is told through personal stories Jeff has accrued through his years as a transportation planner and advocate for bicyclists and pedestrians everywhere.
