SCHOHARIE, N.Y. (NEWS10) – Sunday marked the fifth anniversary of Tropical Storm Irene sweeping through the Capital Region, bringing heavy rain and flooding.

In Schoharie, people gathered together to remember all that has been done to rebuild after the floods five years ago.

The Schoharie Area Long Term Development Program, also known as SALT, used the event as a way to gage what changes community members would still like to see, and also to celebrate accomplishments in the community.

“Well today is the 5th anniversary of Hurricane Irene and it is a chance for the community to gather together and celebrate the resilience of this region and commemorate and honor some families who have made great contributions to the recovery of this area,” said Jerrine Corallo, SALT Project Director.

Those who came out Sunday were asked to share what changes they want to see to make their community a better place, and a list of suggestions was compiled on a chalkboard.
