SALT is thrilled to have a team of AmeriCorps NCCC members working with us! National Civilian Community Corps members strengthen communities and develop leaders through direct, team-based national and community service. Over the next several weeks, we’ll be shining the spotlight on some of these members so you can learn more about them. If you see them in the community, be sure to say hello and thank them for their service!
Kass Brady, Team Leader Kim Courcy, Grayson Shelor
AmeriCorps members come from all over to serve their communities and those all over the nation. Says Kim Courcy, who hails from Warwick, Rhode Island, “I joined AmeriCorps because I wanted to use my Emergency Management degree to directly help people in different communities. I joined NCCC … to continue the development of my leadership skills as well as do more hands-on work in communities.”
The team has had some amazing experiences so far. The team’s Service Learning Initiator, Grayson Shelor, from Knoxville, Tennessee, says that it’s new and different every day. She says that their time working in various state parks gave her the opportunity to “use several different types of power saws for construction and demolition. It’s a skill no one expects from a five-foot tall girl, so it’s fun to shock people.”
Kass Brady, from Tigard, Oregon, serves as the team’s Project Outreach Liason. She also spoke positively of the team’s experience in Delaware’s state parks, and stated that the experience of being in AmeriCorps can “reveal the areas of opportunity and the many ways that you can make yourself available.”
SALT thanks these three for their time and their service! Stop by in the coming weeks to meet more members of the team!
