NCCC Spotlight 5/14

SALT is thrilled to have a team of AmeriCorps NCCC members working with us! National Civilian Community Corps members strengthen communities and develop leaders through direct, team-based national and community service. Over the next several weeks, we’ll be shining the spotlight on some of these members so you can learn more about them. If you see them in the community, be sure to say hello and thank them for their service!

Evan Brock, the team’s fitness trainer, hails from Fairhope, Alabama.  He sat down with us to answer a few questions about himself and his experience thus far.

What made you join AmeriCorps?

The opportunity to help people.  I also wanted to get away from Alabama for a while, to meet new people, and see what life outside Alabama was like.

What’s been your favorite experience so far?

Really, any project we’ve worked on that involves being outside.  I love being active, moving around, working outside, things like that.  That’s not to say I don’t like doing office work, but I love being outside and getting things done.

What are some of your hobbies?

Exercise, for sure.  Reading, too; I don’t get the opportunity to do it much, and I wouldn’t say I have a favorite genre.  I studied history in college, though, so even a history textbook would be interesting to me at this point.

What would be your dream job?

I’d really like to teach English overseas.  It’d be a great opportunity to travel, see the world, and help people.

Okay, last one.  What’s a guilty pleasure of yours, like a song or TV show you’re afraid to admit you like?

[Laughs] That’s a tough one.  I’d have to say that the song “Let it Go” from Frozen is a definite guilty pleasure of mine.  Also, WWE wrestling.  I don’t get much of a chance to keep up on it anymore, but if there’s wrestling on TV, I’m there.
