SALT Project Director, Jerrine Corallo joined Schoharie County Office of Community Development Services Planner, Zachary Thompson, staff and volunteers from the Greater Mohawk Valley Land Bank and over 100 fellow participants at NYS Homes and Community Renewal (HCR) Main Street Bootcamp Workshop on April 19, 2017 to learn about Main Street revitalization concepts and tools.

The workshop sessions covered a range of topics including project funding sources, façade design, commercial district needs assessment and regional coordination as well as project examples and best practices for commercial district revitalization activities from around New York State.

Of particular interest to SALT Development, was the presentation by Peg Ellsworth, Executive Director, The MARK Project & Helen Budrock, Assistant Director and Community Planner, Sullivan Renaissance that discussed the steps and level of commitment required to get a community ready to implement projects and pursue funding sources.  In addition, Larisa Ortiz of Larisa Ortiz Associates presented a session on Commercial District Needs Assessments and more specifically, what data and analysis mean for local economic development and how it can be used for effective decision making.

Also of note, representatives from state and private funding sources – including National Grid, NYS Parks, Recreation & Historic Preservation Historic Tax Credits, and NYS HCR Community Investment Fund (CIF) – pitched funding sources to participants and provided project examples to demonstrate the project development process.
