On August 28, 2015, SALT held a press conference to mark the fourth anniversary of the start of the recovery effort.  The press conference was a huge success. Dozens of local citizens and members of the media turned out to hear local officials and SALT’s Executive Director Sarah Goodrich speak.  Ms. Goodrich’s noted that there was a renewed sense of hope in the county.  And that, “We have so much to celebrate in terms of progress.”

Assemblyman Peter Lopez gave an emotional speech that recalled both the destruction of the storm and the successes of the recovery effort.  The Assemblyman finished his speech with a call to action that rings true throughout the Schoharie Valley.  “We’re not victims. We’re not survivors.  We are architects. We are masters of our fate.” Other officials speaking at the event included: Schoharie Town Supervisor Gene Milone, Middleburgh Mayor Matthew Avitabile, and Schoharie Village Trustee Jay Balliett.

SALT thanks everyone who spoke or attended the press conference.  While the press conference celebrated the successes of the recovery effort there are challenges that remain to the valley’s full recovery.  It is vital that the Schoharie County community continues to advocate for itself as the recovery effort continues.
