On behalf of the NYS Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli, The Albany Chefs’ Food and Wine Festival Board of Directors, the Bounty of the County Event Committee and Schoharie Area Long Term (SALT) we are excited to present the inaugural Bounty of the County Chefs’ Dinner, to be held on June 29, 2013 at the Carrot Barn in Schoharie, New York.
The event will benefit SALT, the lead agency coordinating flood recovery efforts for those affected by Hurricane Irene and Tropical Storm Lee in the Schoharie Creek Basin and surrounding area. The dinner has been designed to raise money to support SALT and also showcase the outstanding efforts of area farms and food purveyors. The seasonal 6 course culinary dinner prepared by Signature Chefs & Rising Stars of the Albany Chefs’ Food & Wine Festival will feature ingredients from the following Schoharie County farms including: The Carrot Barn, Wellington’s Herbs and Spices, Barber’s Farm, Bohringer’s Fruit Farm, Shaul’s Farms, Mariaville Farms, West Wind Acres, Parson’s Farm, and Sunnycrest Orchards.
Since Hurricane Irene hit the area in August 2011, affected families still have significant rebuilding needs, many requiring major construction as a result of extensive flood and storm damage. Many farms and businesses are still reeling from losses caused by Irene. To date, SALT has raised $1 million dollars to assist in recovery efforts, but returning to a state of normalcy from this history-making natural disaster still requires considerable support to help our Schoharie neighbors rebuild and flourish.
